12. Pigeons, A-Shirts aka "Wifebeaters", Cold Brew Shandy
We add pigeons, A-shirts aka "wifebeaters", and the cold brew shandy to the List of Every Damn thing.
Phil and Jake continue construction on the List of Every Damn Thing by ranking pigeons, A-shirts aka "wifebeaters", and the cold brew shandy (it's coffee and lemonade).

SHOW NOTES:
- Jake paid a kid in Sumatra to demonstrate water draining in opposite directions on either side of the equator, but it was a trick.
- Are pigeons and doves the same thing? Yes.
- Here’s a 2010 article about the kidnapping of New York City pigeons for sport killing in Pennsylvania.
- Phil mistakenly refers to the cartoon Dastadly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines as “Catch that Pigeon,” which is a common mistake.
- In the 18th & 19th Centuries, the passenger pigeon was the most common bird in North America, and there were flocks so big that they would black out the skies. We made them extinct by the beginning of the 20th Century.
- We discuss examples in popular culture of people wearing A-shirts, including Danny Aiello, Dennis Franz in Blow-Out, O-Dog (Larenz Tate) from Menace II Society, Marlon Brando from Streetcar Named Desire and Edward Norton from American History X. It looks like Doug from The State didn’t wear an A-shirt, but you can see how people might conflate the two things.
- Cotton’s slogan is “The touch, the feel of cotton, the fabric of our lives”.
- Jon from Time & Tide Coffee’s recipe for the cold brew shandy is: 70% Cold Brew + 30% Fresh Lemonade ( 25% lemon juice / 25% simple syrup / 50% water). For the record, Jake didn’t realize that Phil wasn’t CC’d in the email containing Jon’s recipe, which is why Phil had to resort to an online recipe.
- There are a lot of different names for the drink that combines espresso and sparkling water. Andytown Coffee Roasters in San Francisco makes an amazing version (called the Snowy Plover) that adds homemade whipped cream.
- The tea with cheese topping that Phil refers to is from Happy Lemon.
- Phil’s ex-landlord grew up in Hong Kong and used to drink coffee & tea mixed together.
- Why hasn’t someone made a movie about the partnership of Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin? You know Jim Carrey has considered it.
