SHOW NOTES:
- Phil said that Ludacris signed Justin Bieber but in reality Ludacris was just featured on Bieber’s first single. Phil had Bieber confused with Chingy again.
- As Jake notes, Charli XCX is probably most known from songs where she’s a featured guest. We discuss many of these, including “I Love It” by Icona Pop (feat. Charli XCX), “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea (feat. Charli XCX) and “Drop That Kitty” by Ty Dolla $ign (feat. Charli XCX & Tinashe). That last song is relevant to Phil because he lives with a cat now.
- Of course we also talk about some songs with Charli XCX as the main artist, including “Boom Clap”, “Break the Rules”, “Vroom Vroom”, “pink diamond”, “After the Afterparty” (feat. Lil Yachty), “1999” (with Troye Sivan) and “New Shapes” (feat. Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek). Jake thinks that last song sounds like the end of “Shock to Your System” by Tegan & Sara.
- “Same Old Love” by Selena Gomez was written by Charli XCX, and as Phil notes sounds like “You Showed Me” by the Turtles.
- SOPHIE (RIP) was a producer who worked with Charli XCX.
- Jake and Phil agree that “Waterfalls” by TLC is one of the worst songs.
- WebMD says synesthesia is real.
- Here’s a pretty good Doctor Doom reading list. It includes the following stories that we mention in this episode: Secret Wars (1984), Emperor Doom, Dr. Strange & Dr. Doom: Triumph and Torment and Secret Wars (2015).
- It’s hard to talk about Doctor Doom without talking about the Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, the title characters of “"The World's Greatest Comic Magazine!"
- Jake knew that a lame Doctor Doom was feature in the first two Fantastic Four movies from 20th Century Fox, but wasn’t sure about the 2015 reboot. Research shows that Doom is, in fact, in it (but with the “Doctor” part of his name removed).
- Here’s the pic of Doctor Doom with Sub-Mariner’s horn that Phil refers to.
- Here’s a bias-confirming article about Darth Vader borrowing from Doctor Doom.
- Voice of Latveria is a great podcast dedicated to all things Doom.
- Phil's not a Family Guy fan but he found this relevant clip while looking for Wile E. Coyote videos to show his dad.
- Phil ponders “Has there ever been a female Doom?” There seem to be women who dress up as Doom but without the mask which defeats the point.
- Watch Fantastic Fungi for a fun primer on mycology.
