SHOW NOTES:
- Tengen Tetris, the version of Tetris that Phil mentions, is pretty well known. It was made for the NES by Tengen before Nintendo got the license.
- We talk a lot about our buds “Million Dollar” Matt Hock and “Uncle” Dave Walsh from the band Space Cadet (who were our guests in Episode 35). BUY THEIR NEW RECORD!
- Here’s the Rolling Stone write-up for Dave’s moving and haunting song, “Your Ghost” (which Jake refers to in this episode).
- We talk a lot about Dave’s brother and collaborator Tim Hause. He doesn’t have a Wikipedia page yet but you can stalk him on Instagram.
- Jake gets the name of “Regulate” by Warren G wrong. We can’t find proof that it was originally intended for a Nate Dogg album, but Jake’s pretty sure he learned from reading Have Gun, Will Travel: The Spectacular Rise and Violent Fall of Death Row Records by Ronin Ro.
- We mention Murder Was the Case: The Movie, a short film starring Snoop Dogg and Charlie Murphy.
- Here’s a short piece about the Batter Blaster and it’s failure. It's inventor owned San Francisco’s bar & venue Thee Parkside in the early 2000’s.
- “Hungry Heart” gets covered as a Ramones song sometimes.
- “Blinded by the Light” was written and originally recorded by Springsteen, but everyone knows the Mannfred Mann version best. Springsteen and Patti Smith share writing credits for “Because the Night” but it originally appeared on her album. “Born to Run” is all Boss, baby.
- Here's the Kroll Show song about the Poconos that Phil talks about. There's a recurring segment in Kroll Show called Pawnsylvania which is a reality show about two cousins (one from Philadelphia and one from Pittsburgh) trying to manage each other's pawn shops. A lot can be learned about the two cities from it!
- Here's the Bleachers song that features the Boss.
- Here’s the TV commercial where Dolly Parton endorses the twelve-hour workday.
- Bon Jovi songs discussed include “Livin’ On A Prayer”, “Wanted Dead or Alive”, “Blaze of Glory”, “You Give Love a Bad Name”, “It’s My Life” and “I’ll Be There for You”.
- Some lazy googling produces the impression that “Slippery When Wet” and “Born in the USA” are practically neck-to-neck in worldwide record sales.
- John Mellencamp has a real Nick Nolte look going on these days.
